About HSPs
The term "Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)" is used to describe individuals who perceive and experience the world differently from the majority, often showing heightened sensitivity to sensory stimuli and subtleties in the environment.
Other common characteristics of HSPs include:
-
Feeling and thinking deeply about matters
-
Being highly perceptive and easily affected by the environment, such as other people’s moods, activities, and sensory stimuli
-
Being caring and motivated to help others
-
Having been told by others that they are too sensitive or need to toughen up
HSPs encompass a broad spectrum of individuals with varying types and degrees of sensitivities and traits. Some HSPs may additionally have varying degrees of identifying as empaths (i.e., those who feel and absorb others' emotions), being neurodivergent, and/or being intuitive.
